In 1937 Frank X. Powers was admitted as a
partner and the firm name was changed to Gillespie + Powers, Inc. In 1950,
two years after the death of Mr. Powers, the partnership was converted to
the present corporation.
|
|
From its inception and through the early 1960s, the company operated on a
regional basis involved with refractory installation services primarily in
heating systems and electric generator stations.
Around the time of the formation of the partnership, the
City of St. Louis passed a rather rigid smoke abatement law that thrust the
company into a great deal of research into the installation of new coal-burning
equipment in many existing boilers. Following this, the company was heavily
involved with the conversion of much of the hand fired boiler equipment to
stokers and finally converting much of this equipment to firing with oil and
gas.

In the early
1960s, Gillespie + Powers, Inc. expanded into the aluminum
industry providing design and installation for aluminum melting
and holding furnaces, specializing in the larger stationary type of
equipment up to 100 tons in metal holding capacity.

|
The company's interest in
aluminum melting has expanded with the design and installation of
a number of proprietary pieces of equipment including the reverse
flow melter, mass flow delacquering system, Vortex submerging
equipment and universal scrap melting system. The company is also
involved in the design and installation of refractory systems for
large hazardous waste incinerators. |
